About me

My name is Jozef Adámek, and i am from a small town in Slovakia. I decided to make a website about rearing and breeding moths and butterflies. The site was directed for breeders from Slovakia and Czech republic because there arent any sites with caresheets to help beginners or even experienced breeders with rearing new species. But i decided to translate the site and make a English version too for all the foreign speaking friends and people that dont know how to start this hobby. The main goal other than helping other breeders is to educate and spread awareness about the importance of insects and their beauty. Maybe some people will decide not to step on a caterpillar when they learn how complex their lifecycle is and how long it can take to complete, and to see how beautiful caterpillars and moths can be. On the website you can find detailed caresheets and some other tips and tricks. I have been rearing moths for only a couple years now but i was interested in insects since i was a little kid, i am 18 years old now. This hobby is very important and we can learn a lot about the behavior of certain species and how to protect them. This hobby is fit for anyone, but it can be difficult at times, dont let failure discourage you. Lot of people share only their success so it can seem like everyone is only successful in rearing but failing species is very common, sometimes we struggle even with beginner species and other times everything goes well. Sometimes you can rear the same species in the same conditions at diffrent times and one time you fail and the next you have no loss in rearing. Its a really beautiful hobby in my eyes, you can experience the full lifecycle of amazing creatures. I would advice beginners to start with easier species and work towards other more difficult ones later on. Sometimes people start off with difficult species and fail, but as i said, failure is a part of this hobby. In the upcomming years you can expect new caresheets and new information to be published here. I hope this site will help you and maybe even motivate some people to start rearing themselves. The community of breeders is a very pleasant place, everyone is nice and willing to help, dont be afraid to ask. If you have more information you can always contact me. Lastly, i would like to thank my brother Martin, for all the help with this site, without him this website wouldnt exist. A big thanks goes to my friend Sandy from France, for all the help and advice about rearing. I would also like to thank my friend Andrew Spicer aswell for help, information and sharing photos with me that i could use here. A big thanks for the photos of the Lasiocampidae to Olivier Bouteleux and to Alexandre Laberge for photos of callosamia and hyalophora species. And thank you goes to all my friends like Martin Finney for advice and information, Eric Van Schayck, Ben Horton, Chritopher Conlan, Noa Ammann, Michael Heartman for actias dubernardi caterpillar L2 photo, and to Martin Jagelka.
